According to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, 86% of farms in the U.S. are structured as sole proprietorships and 7% as partnerships. This does not necessarily mean that these people have chose the best business structure for their farms, in fact it is more than likely a failure to look into other business structures and plan properly for the best possibility tax situation and the easiest continuation of existence of the farm by passing it on to future generations. Another thing that has come into play with local farms is the EPA involvement in farming communities.
